More and more of our shelter dogs are being adopted into loving homes in Canada, the United States and even Europe. Sometimes they travel with their new owners but at other times they need a little help getting there and this is where flight escorts come in.

At the present time we are looking for the assistance of people travelling direct from Huatulco airport to Calgary or Vancouver, Canada with Air Transat between late December 2017 and the end of February 2018.

What is involved? It is a lot easier than you may think!

First, advise us of your travel dates as soon as possible so that we can make arrangements for the dog who is to travel with you. The only thing we will ask you to do is to book crate space on your flight for which you will be reimbursed. On the day of travel a representative from Perros en Puerto will meet you at the airport with the dog and all the required paperwork. They will stay with you to assist in the check in process and remain until the dog has been boarded. At your destination you will collect the dog from the fragile baggage area. You will need to present all the dog’s paperwork before you clear customs but this goes very quickly. You will be met by the new dog owner or a representative of a local rescue if the dog is going into their care before heading to its forever home. It is that easy! You will have made a huge difference in a dog’s life! And we will be able to rescue another!

We occasionally seek the assistance of flight escorts to other destinations. We have even had people escort a dog to a drop off point in Europe. The dog was met by the new owners in Frankfurt and then they all made the trek to their final destination in Finland. There is obviously more involved in this process as there were two connections on the journey but everyone said they would do it again!
